The Family Birthplace of West Suburban Medical Center has been recognized for the second year in a row as one of the nation’s top maternity centers on Newsweek’s list of Best Maternity Hospitals 2022. This prestigious award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider.
“We are proud and honored to again earn this outstanding national distinction for our Family Birthplace center at West Suburban,” said West Suburban CEO Barbara Martin. “We’ve built an outstanding reputation as one of the most innovative labor and delivery centers in the metropolitan area to guarantee expectant mothers the safest and most satisfying birth experience possible.”
Newsweek and Statista invited over 10,000 medical professionals to participate in the survey. Only 350 winners were recognized on the Best Maternity Hospitals 2022 list. The 2022 awards list was recently announced and can currently be viewed on Newsweek’s website.
Newsweek and Statista developed a complex methodology to ensure the quality and validity of the ranking. Three data sources were used for the evaluation:
- Nationwide online survey: hospital managers and health care professionals with knowledge about maternity processes e.g. Midwives, neonatal and OB/GYNs were asked to recommend leading maternity hospitals in the U.S.;
- Medical KPIs (Key Patient Indicators) on hospitals with a focus on indicators relevant to maternity care;
- Results from patient surveys.
The Family Birthplace offers 12 private birthing suites for labor, delivery, and recovery, as well as 20 private rooms for postpartum recovery. All rooms are designed to provide the feel of home while offering modern medical care to mothers and their babies.
West Suburban’s partnership with Lurie Children’s Hospital offers patients direct access to the most advanced care for premature and critically ill infants. Neonatologists from Lurie Children’s are on staff at West Suburban Medical Center’s Level II Nursery.
The Family Birthplace also features one of the largest midwifery programs in the area. Certified nurse-midwives are accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives and offer a wide range of gynecologic care and birthing options.
Parents can control their birthing experience such as choosing to have a natural childbirth in the company of family. The Family Birthplace provides the room and resources to create a welcoming setting for natural childbirth that encourages use of alternative comfort measures such as tub immersion and positioning during labor and birth.
