Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear Medicine is very useful for visualizing specific organs within the body by injecting small amounts of radio-pharmaceutical agent into the blood stream to help diagnose and determine the severity of a variety of diseases, including many types of cancers, heart disease, endocrine, gastrointestinal, neurological disorders and other abnormalities. Nuclear medicine procedures can pinpoint molecular activity within the body and offer the potential to identify disease in its earliest stages. They can also demonstrate a patient's immediate response to various therapeutic interventions. The Nuclear Medicine Department at West Suburban Medical Center performs diagnostic procedures on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Procedures offered at West Suburban Medical Center include heart perfusion, bone, liver, lung and gallbladder scans.
