Diabetes & Nutrition

Living with diabetes can be overwhelming at times, but learning more about this complex disorder can help you to manage it better. West Suburban Medical Center’s Center for Diabetes & Nutrition Education offers programs to educate and assist if you’ve recently been diagnosed with diabetes or you’re currently managing the disorder. We’re an American Diabetes Association-recognized program staffed by dietitians and nurse certified diabetes educators.

Diabetes self-management education (DSME) is core to our program. At West Suburban, you’ll receive education about the condition, ranging from diets and daily care to medications and exercise. The Center for Diabetes & Nutrition Education provides two education options, including individualized treatment and a group education program. Individual sessions cover monitoring and managing blood sugar patterns through diet, exercise, stress management and medication. Participants are also taught skills for minimizing the risk of complications from diabetes.

Our certified diabetes educators help to treat and manage, as well as provide information about:

  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Pre-diabetes
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Insulin pump therapy
  • Continuous glucose monitoring
  • Other nutritional education
