Curriculum

The curriculum in our Internal Medicine Residency Program is designed to give you a comprehensive experience while allowing you freedom in choosing electives that fit your health care goals. 

All residents will spend four hours or 1/2 day a week in the Associates in Internal Medicine ambulatory clinic. Additional months of any specialty/subspecialty rotation can be arranged with the approval of the Program Director. Noon Conference, Grand Rounds and Tumor Board are mandatory. Morning Report and Bedside Teaching Rounds are mandatory on the Inpatient General Medicine Services.

Post Graduate Year (PGY) 1

  • Internal Medicine Service, 4 Months*
  • Internal Medicine Service Night Float & Associates in Internal Medicine Ambulatory Clinic, 4 Weeks*
  • Intensive Care Unit, 2 Months*
  • Primary Care, 2 Weeks*
  • Rheumatology, ​2 Weeks*
  • Electives, 3 Months*
  • Vacation, 3 Weeks**

Post Graduate Year (PGY) 2

  • Internal Medicine Service, 3 Months
  • Internal Medicine Service Night Float & Associates in Internal Medicine Ambulatory Clinic, 2 Months
  • Intensive Care Unit, 2 Months
  • Nephrology (Rush University Medical Center), 1 Month
  • Electives, 4 Months
  • Vacation, 3 Weeks**

Post Graduate Year (PGY) 3

  • Internal Medicine Service, 3 Months
  • Internal Medicine Service Night Float & Associates in Internal Medicine Ambulatory Clinic, 1 Month
  • Intensive Care Unit, 1 Month
  • Geriatrics/Consultation Service, 1 Month
  • Emergency Medicine, 1 Month
  • Neurology, 1 Month
  • Electives, 4 Months
  • Vacation, 3 Weeks**
