One Year, Preliminary Year
Internal Medicine Residency
The Preliminary Year Internal Medicine program is a one-year program for residents pursuing a career in a subspecialty program, such as Anesthesia, Ophthalmology, Radiology or Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The department has the same high standards for preliminary and categorical residents. Residents have similar schedules and similar evaluations processes. They attend all the educational conferences and partake in all the learning opportunities.
Differences are as follows:
- Preliminary residents have the option of attending continuity clinic.
- Preliminary residents can do another elective in lieu of Ambulatory Medicine and Rheumatology.
For a list of rotations, refer to the Categorical Internal Medicine residency.
Residents training in a Preliminary year at West Suburban Medical Center will receive excellent training in the field of Internal Medicine, which will hold them in good stead for their future career.
