Insulin Pumps

Insulin pump therapy puts you in control of your diabetes by offering better outcomes, precise insulin delivery, protection from lows and highs, A1c improvement and convenience. We offer the following comprehensive pump program and highly recommend attending all the following required visits:

First Visit—Pump Introduction
This visit will introduce you to the basics of insulin pump therapy including the risks and benefits of pump therapy, blood glucose monitoring and basic carbohydrate counting.

Second Visit—Nutrition Counseling
Individual consultation with the registered dietitian for advanced carbohydrate counting and insulin to carbohydrate ratios.

Third Visit—Saline Start
Understand the mechanics of the pump and start on saline. This visit helps you understand the skills needed to make the change from insulin injections to pump therapy, pump settings and you will fill the reservoir, insert an infusion set and start on a salt water solution.

Fourth Visit—Insulin Start
Three days after starting on saline, you will begin using insulin in your pump.

Fifth Visit—Follow Up
A follow-up visit is recommended to fine tune your pump settings based on your blood glucose results.

Sixth Visit—Advanced Pump Features
You will learn advanced features of the pump and review how well things are going on the pump.

Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM)

Now you can improve your glucose control and enjoy a richer, fuller life. The CGM captures your glucose levels continuously, 24 hours a day. It records while you work, while you play and while you sleep. This information gives us important information to improve your diabetes treatment. This information helps answer questions like these:

  • Are my levels going low at night?
  • How did that pizza affect my glucose level?
  • How often do I get lows and highs that I don't know about?
  • How well is my therapy working?
  • Does my treatment need adjustment?

Other Nutrition Services

Our registered dietitians also can provide counseling on weight management, low cholesterol, low sodium, food allergies, kidney disease, bariatric surgery, gluten free, eating disorders and many others healthy eating guidelines for adults and children.
